Summer Fun – with a little help from our friends
School’s out and summer’s here – and for the Pedal Power team that means even more time to get outside and have fun with our friends.
The weather held out for this year’s summer school and Pedal Power members old and new got on their bikes and enjoyed the sunshine.
Best friends Philip and Leckan are Pedal Power regulars, and they had a cracking time hanging out together. Leckan even had his first try on a two-wheel bike – a fantastic success!
Pedal Power volunteer Emma Kelly made a great job of helping out some of our newer members. Emma took five year old Georgina under her wing and helped her to cycle without stabilisers for the first time. It just goes to show what you can achieve with a little team work.
Also new to Pedal Power was Toby the dog. Toby, who has a very loud bark and a wicked sense of fun, had a go on the side-by-side. Oh – and his owner Stephanie and her best friend Nicole had a great time too. They mastered the art of cycling in style, using a parasol to keep them cool in the blazing sun.
Talking of friends, Suzie Roach held her 37th birthday party in Finsbury Park. Suzie and her friends enjoyed a delicious spread and an afternoon of games to celebrate.
Coming up in the next few weeks is plenty more fun in the sun with Pedal Power at the usual time and place and the much-talked about bike auction is now planned for the Well Oiled Festival on September 17th. We need as much support as we can get, and anyone who has a friend with a spare bike – please ask them if they’d like to make a donation!
After all, we get by with a little help from our friends.
Happy New Year
Yep, 2011 – A new year and a new beginning for pedal power. The old year – however – went out with a bang! A very successful and humongously enjoyable tea party at Pedal Power mansions raised lot’s of money for the cause and enabled me to do most of my Christmas shopping while drinking tea, eating cakes and enjoying some wonderful live music – bring on Christmas 2011. But if that wasn’t enough December 23rd 2010 saw the beginning of Jo Roach’s 60th year on god’s good earth – hard to believe. Boy was she surprised when she showed up at the Oak Tree Community Centre on Bethune road! The night only got better as the drink flowed and food was gobbled up with plenty of dancing and merrymaking although some idiot made a mess of the whole thing by showing up with a huge bag of popcorn which mostly ended up on the floor becoming a health and safety hazard. – fortunately no-one slipped on a delinquent piece of popcorn!
And indeed it was a very fine Christmas as we have had a huge haul of tricycles and special needs adaptations which will enable lot’s of people to ride a bike or trike. So many thanks to Whizzkids for selling us their stock at incredible prices.
Due to popular demand … from the 5th of February onwards it’s on from 11:00 – 4:00, that’s 5 hours of non-stop fun rain or shine enabling more people to spend more time riding around and enjoying themselves.
Please see our calender for the details of the time and our map for details of where we are. And we’ll see you in February!

No really, can it be true? will pedal power have a place to store their beautiful bikes and trikes? Rumour has it that the wonderful people at the London Borough of Haringey have found the space in their hearts ( well park actually ) to allow pedal power ( the cycle club for people with learning disabilities – and not the soc ent “for goods & services pertaining to cycle maintenance & repair” known as Pedal Power London ) to place 2 bike storage containers on the spacious basket ball courts in fantastic Finsbury Park!
HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!
Please watch this space for further developments!
